IMPROVING FAMILY ACCESS TO QUALITY CHILDCARE
The Build, Learn, Grow Scholarship Program was created in April 2021 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to provide Indiana families with financial aid so their children may receive high-quality early childhood education and after-school care. Since the program's start, over 1,700 service providers have benefited from the increase in participation, as have roughly 16,000 children and their families. Indiana aims to continue assisting underprivileged scholarship families after the program ends by temporarily increasing Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) assistance and encouraging providers to serve families more broadly using recent Stabilization Grant funds.

Continued Support for Scholarship Families
Many families are worried that as the Build, Learn, Grow scholarships expire, hard-working families won't be able to afford to pay for high-quality care. To meet this need and support families' ability to continue working and keep their children in school, the Office of Early Childhood and Out-of-School Learning (OECOSL) is offering temporary CCDF eligibility to more than 1,500 scholarship families enrolled in participating school-age programs with incomes at or below 85% of state median income. Providers should help with eligible families to complete and submit the basic application form on their behalf as soon as possible. Local CCDF eligibility offices will review and process it. Siblings of the family who are under the age of 13 are also eligible for CCDF assistance.
The deadline to apply for families receiving school-age/summer scholarships is Aug. 5. Apply as soon as possible to avoid any gaps in families’ coverage.
